At just 24, Jonathan Schoop has proven to be a strong defensive asset in the middle of the infield. He has also showcased his power.
Despite being limited to 86 games in 2015, the second baseman still belted 15 homers for the Birds. And were any of his home runs more impressive than his mammoth bomb off Johnny Cueto at Kauffman Stadium? Schoop got all of it, but the sky-high ball flirted with the foul pole and was just fair.
Rewatch the huge 484-foot homer (and Adam Jones' awesome reaction)...
Obviously, the big news this week was first baseman Chris Davis re-signing with the Orioles. The seven-year contract was reported as a done deal early Saturday morning before becoming official with a press conference last night at Camden Yards after Davis psased a physical.
But before we get to the best of #WelcomeBackCrush, I think it's important to note that the MASN family spends its time together even outside of Oriole Park.
MASN's Jim Hunter's wife, Bonnie, makes a delicious baked ziti,...
Earlier today on our Facebook page, we asked fans how many homers they thought Chris Davis would end up hitting over the course of his career.

While opening day in Birdland is still a few months away, opening day for the Orioles Health & Fitness Challenge kicked off Tuesday, Jan. 19 in Sarasota, Fla. The new program, developed in partnership with Health Fit - Powered by Sarasota Memorial Hospital, helps motivate middle school-aged...
As the NFL's season continues, so does that of Tyler Wilson's Packers. After beating the Redskins 35-18 on Sunday, the Pack now heads to the desert to take on the Cardinals in the NFC divisional round.

Meanwhile, back here in the Old Line State, MASNsports.com's Roch Kubatko won, too. On Monday, Roch was named a co-winner of the Maryland Sportswriter of the Year award by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association for the...
If you're anything like me, you love a good pitchers' duel. You know, the games that are knotted up at 0-0 or sit at 1-0 into the late innings.
Well, today ... we're not looking back at that. In fact, it's pretty much the opposite.
If I'm not watching the low-scoring games I generally prefer, there's nothing that can top huge home runs. Now let's multiply that by four.
In an early September game in Toronto, the Orioles teed off four times, scattering home runs all around Rogers...
Roch Kubatko, whose around-the-clock coverage of the Orioles has appeared on MASNsports.com since August 2008, was today named a co-winner of the Maryland Sportswriter of the Year award by the Salisbury, N.C.-based National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
It's the second time Kubatko has been recognized as Maryland Sportswriter of the Year, having previously won the award in 2004 when he was on the Orioles beat for The Baltimore Sun. This year, he shares the award with Sun...
Welcome back to "Out of the Park"! I hope all of Birdland enjoyed the holidays and new year!
While most of our area had a very mild holiday season, the Oriole Bird was excited to start the first week of 2016 with some light snow.
Did anyone else just see snowflakes falling?? â„ï¸ Happy first Monday of 2016! ☃

The Bird also later calculated that we are halfway to opening day, which MASN's Jim Hunter thought was very...
Happy 2016, Birdland! A new year is upon us, which means we're one step closer to another season of Orioles baseball. Yep, just a little more than a month until pitchers and catchers report!
As spring training nears, there is still a lot of speculation surrounding the Orioles rotation and lineup. One question fans and media are asking is how the young arms, including Mike Wright and Tyler Wilson, will impact the team in 2016.
While we anticipate many questions being answered spring training,...
To start off this week's edition of Out of the Park, I first want to give thanks to the Winter Meetings last week for taking on the majority of the social media buzz. Although it was mostly just rumors, they took up most of your attention on the Twittersphere, blogosphere or whatever sphere you prefer.
That being said, let's get to what some Orioles were doing this week with the holidays among us.
MASN's Jim Palmer was celebrating this week, but it was wife Susan's birthday instead of a...
Welcome back to our #TBT posts, and welcome back, Darren O'Day! This week, the Orioles held a press conference to announce the re-signing of the veteran reliever.
After pitching to a 1.52 ERA in 2015, O'Day agreed to a four-year, $31 million deal with the O's.
In welcoming back the sidearmer, we're bringing back one of his signature moments from last season. The Orioles had a 5-2 lead when O'Day came into the game in the eighth inning against the Red Sox. He then went on to record to a...
It's the most wonderful time of the year, Birdland! That's right, Orioles FanFest is back.
We know you're itching for baseball following the Winter Meetings, so get your offseason fix by taking photos with your favorite Orioles, entering to win signed gear and so much more at the MASN booth on Saturday at the Baltimore Convention Center!
As always, we will be providing top prizes, including signed bats, autographed jerseys, holiday ornaments, texting gloves and much more!

You may have noticed that I didn't file my blog post from Nashville yesterday. As soon as I shot Dan Duquette's interview, I hopped on a plane for a flight home to prepare for O's FanFest.
While I left a day early - and with lots of leftover editing work for my colleague, Bobby Blanco - I still had a full experience at the Winter Meetings. However, I did have to miss the Rule 5 draft, (my favorite day of the Winter Meetings).
You can read more on the Rule 5 here.
Meanwhile, while Buck...

NASHVILLE - Before we get to the baseball updates, a personal note: I only got lost in the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center about seven times today. New record!
Wandering from place to place around the hotel today, I was able to be behind the scenes for some very cool interviews and baseball moments.
First of all, manager Buck Showalter joined MLB Network's "Hot Stove" to chat about a variety of topics, including the horse named after him by Peter Angelos.

NASHVILLE - Day 1 of the Winter Meetings - and my energy - are fading fast.
My day was kicked off with Steve Melewski's interview with MLB Network's Harold Reynolds and never slowed down.
One latte all day, Olivia? A big mistake, but we'll try better tomorrow.
The first day featured a lobby full of chatter and rumors.

NASHVILLE - Greetings from Music City! The MASNsports.com Web team arrived to the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center this afternoon, ready (or not) for a week of rumors, press conferences and baseball buzz.
Of course, it wouldn't be the Winter Meetings without some early news. Before boarding our flight, we learned that Darren O'Day had reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with the Orioles. However, by the time we touched down in Nashville and checked into our hotel, O'Day had...
Autograph vouchers for FanFest go on sale tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at orioles.com/fanfest. But in order to plan out whose signatures you want to get, and when you can get them, we're happy to provide the official list of autograph stations for FanFest on Dec. 12 at the Baltimore Convention Center.
At FanFest, the Orioles will once again employ an autograph policy designed to support youth charitable endeavors through OriolesREACH and enhance fan engagement with shorter wait times. Children...
I hope everyone enjoyed their extended weekend over the Thanksgiving holiday surrounded by friends, family and delicious food. My favorite dish from last weekend was my grandmother's chorizo stuffing, with my aunt's green bean casserole topped with crispy onions as my sleeper pick.
This was actually a baseball-packed week with the non-tender deadline on Wednesday night and Winter Meetings a mere three days away. And although I'm sure you kept up with the latest news by checking out Roch...
The Orioles had a very busy day Wednesday, from officially announcing they traded for Mark Trumbo and C.J. Riefenhauser to acquiring catcher Francisco Pena from Kansas City to tendering contracts to eight arbitration-eligible players.
However, the team did not tender contracts to three arbitration-eligible players: Steve Johnson, Paul Janish and David Lough. All three are now free agents.
Reflecting on last season, one of the most exciting moments of the first half was thanks to Lough. The...
